I visited JHB building for the first time last year, because one friend of mine studies here, but only last month I started to explore it...
In the freshers week, when I begin to came there more frequently, I honestly thought that it was a maze, but day by day the corners, the stairs, the spaces starts to grow on you and now it all makes sense!
During my first day, I remember I went to the the big cafeteria and I sit there, looking throw that massive wall of glass, thinking how amazing it is that instead of a big grey wall the project designers actually decided to go for the clear glass option that it just brings so much more light, therefore, for me it's one of the most attractive spaces to be. Not to mension the area next to it with all the sofas and computers so perfect to just grab a coffee and do some work.
Also I was very impressed that almost every corner has its own computer sections, and even when we think it's all occuppied there is even an phone app to search for the nearby free computer available.
I remember when I went up the stairs after the main reception and I look left and saw written on the wall "John Henry Lecture Theater" I was so curious to check how everything was inside, and the day I had my first lecture I was very surprised in the most positive way. The room is very commodious and the design reminds me of the ancient Greek theaters it is amazing.
And last but not least the library... On the freshers week also I decided to take a library tour (which by the way it's a wonderful idea, I honestly never tough that this was even an option!), I decided to take it because I was very curious about what could possibly be so different in this library that it even needs is own tour... And of course it's because the amount of books it's so wide that each floor is divided by sections and so to actually find a book don't became a impossible mission I discover that there is the proper library computers just to search for the book we need. Overall, I'm just fascinated, not only with this building in particullary but with all the rest that makes this university so cool.
It's amazing how technology and design hold hands here and provide such a convenient and simple service.
